Ovarian / Pelvic / Testicular Vein Ablation

Comprehensive Venous Diagnosis and Treatment

Some patients with pelvic pain, Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, pain with intercourse (dyspareunia). labial varicosities, or scrotal varicocele (varicose veins) are treated with minimally-invasive techniques through a small incision at the groin to seal shut abnormal pelvic varicose veins, or enlarged, refluxing ovarian or testicular veins. These procedures are known as ovarian, pelvic, or testicular vein ablation. In carefully selected patients, this often results in dramatic improvement of pelvic symptoms and in resolution of varicose veins in the pelvic area or scrotum.

Ovarian, pelvic, or testicular vein ablation are accomplished with a variety of techniques to seal shut the abnormal veins. A needlestick is utilized at the groin with passage of a small tube up the veins of the pelvis to deliver a substance or device to seal shut the abnormal refluxing veins. Commonly, a foam sclerosant is used to seal shut some of the varicose veins of the pelvis and a refluxing ovarian vein or a refluxing testicular vein. This may be supplemented with placement of small Platinum coils in the ovarian  or testicular veins which seal the veins shut.

Ovarian, pelvic, or testicular vein ablation procedures are done at Gateway Medical Center in a state-of -the-art Special Procedures unit or in one of the Endovascular Suites in the Operating Room. Nearly all patients go home within 23 hours and are back to work within days. Resolution of pelvic pain may be nearly immediate or may take up to several weeks. The majority of patients need no further treatment for this problem.
